TRAINING AND CONTINUED EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The foundation of effective advocacy begins with pre and post training learning. Continued Education is designed to prepare and support each CASA volunteer in the important role as a child advocate.
Following the year each CASA is sworn-in, CASAs are required to participate in 12 hours of continued education each calendar year.  Your hours for your first year of service will be prorated.  Your Advocate Coordinator will let you know how many you need.

There are five key areas CASA of West Central Illinois offers to support a volunteer’s continued education and help to build a foundation of knowledge on case-related topics. A maximum of six (6) hours will be allowed from the Books and Movies/Videos/Podcast categories. Please round to nearest ½ hour when reporting in Optima.

How to count Continued Education activities:

• Books:  Each 50 pages read is equivalent to one hour of CE
• Movies/Videos/Podcasts:  Actual time watching or listening
• Online Workshops & Webinars:  Actual time watching and participating
• In Person In-Services:  Actual time at in-service
• Conferences:  Actual time at conference

All Continued Education must be recorded in Optima. Please contact the CASA office if you need assistance in documenting your training.
